TV Ghost
http://myspace.com/televisionghost

Taking their name from the phenomenon of analog television frequency disturbances, Lafayette, IN’s TV Ghost conjures an especially sludgy and punishing brand of art-punk. Featuring Dolan Brahne Hoeft, Jackson VanHorn, Shawn Ghost, and Timothy Conrad Gick, TV Ghost began making a name for themselves in 2007, when their first 7,” “Atomic Rain,” was released by Die Stasi Records, also home to the noisy likes of Pink Reason and Zola Jesus. The band’s sinister sound — which echoed the Scientists and the Cramps’ mid-’70s output — and frantic live show won them an underground following; a nine-song EP, also on Die Stasi, arrived in early 2008. That year, TV Ghost signed to In the Red to release a full-length album and appeared at the label’s South by Southwest showcase. The band also released The Fiend/Prodome as a part of Columbus Discount’s single of the month club in May 2009, a few months before their debut full-length Cold Fish surfaced. - ©1992-2009 All Media Guide, LLC

Lovvers
http://www.myspace.com/letscommunicate

On their MySpace page, U.K. upstarts Lovvers concisely sum up their influences as “Germs. Wipers. SST.” And there’s little arguing that Lovvers’ aural blitzkrieg is built from the spare parts of the first decade of American punk rock, though it’s the way they combine the sloppy and the furious that truly sets them apart. Comprised of Shaun Hencher on vocals, Henry Withers on guitar, Michael Drake on bass, and Stephen Rose on drums, Lovvers formed in Nottingham in 2006, and within two weeks of their first rehearsal the band had made their public debut. Seemingly willing to play anywhere at any time, Lovvers racked up over 200 gigs in their first two years, storming clubs in both the U.K. and Europe and opening for the likes of Times New Viking, the Black Lips, Fucked Up, Foals, No Age, and the Butthole Surfers. After self-releasing their first recordings on CD-R, Lovvers found a like-minded record label in Jonson Family Records, who issued three 7″ Lovvers EPs in 2007. In time the group’s growing reputation — rave reviews in the press peppered with provocative criticism, including a letter to the editor in venerable hard rock journal Kerrang! that described the band’s live show as “highly offensive” — caught the attention of respected indie label Wichita Recordings, who released the seven-song 12″/CD Think in the fall of 2008. - ©1992-2009 All Media Guide, LLC

Day Creeper
http://www.myspace.com/daycreeper

Day Creeper is the latest on the turf, but my how each and every step they make is not to burn the flesh. This duo has a chemistry that belies their rookie status. There’s Spartan punctuation at each simple turn of these big riffs and melodies. That synergy is especially prevalent on “My Blue Screen,” the big organ and twinkle choogler that ultimately wins out. The untitled disc that came earlier in the week shows much more range (find “The Problem at Hand”) by cramming some discernable lyrics into the angular twists the guitarist’s Richman-esque charisma exudes. - The Agit Reader
